Grace Award Ceremony

The Grace Award is named both for the first recipient, Grace Hiddleson, and for the virtues of grace exemplified by The Three Graces in western mythology that inspired qualities such as Excellence, Service to another, Charity, Mercy, Love, Gentleness, or Friendship.

Grace received the award in 2004. In 2005 the award was presented to Kay Krieger for her outstanding volunteer efforts, and in 2006 it was presented to Mary Velinsky. The 2007 Grace Award was presented to Petra Dauer, and Beverly Payne of Davis received 2008 Grace Award.

The 2009 Grace Award went to two very deserving recipients:

Brenda Duppong

BRENDA DUPPONG

Brenda has been a dedicated Convalescent Hospital Visiting (CHV) program volunteer since March of 2008, with over 100 hours of service in visiting isolated convalescent hospital residents. Brenda's assignment has been to visit a resident at Cottonwood Healthcare in Woodland. In performing this service, however, she has not limited her visits and efforts. Brenda often includes other residents in her conversations and activities at the facility. She is known for bringing treats , food and clothing to her resident client, and often brings treats to other residents as well. In addition, Brenda has assisted the facility's activity staff with group activities and outings.

Brenda has developed a lasting friendship with her CHV resident client. She even tracked her client to the hospital and visited there when the client was ill.

Citizens Who Care commends Brenda Duppong for her dedicated and outstanding work to brighten the days of elder citizens. Her commitment of heart, talent and energy continues to benefit our clients, their families and the community.

Noreen Ott

NOREEN OTT

Noreen has been a dedicated Convalescent Hospital Visiting (CHV) program volunteer since June of 2008, with almost 100 hours of service. Noreen has regularly visited two isolated convalescent hospital residents at Cottonwood Healthcare in Woodland. She brings food treats to these residents, brings them holiday gifts and remembers them on their birthdays. Noreen has also worked with the facility staff to allow her little dog to visit occasionally, not only with her assigned clients but also with other residents in a group setting. She has been known to order "take-out lunch for the ladies" so that these residents can enjoy a change of meals occasionally. Noreen often inquires as to ways that she may be able to further assist her resident clients.

Noreen has demonstrated great diligence. Even when forced by absence or family illness to be away from town, she keeps her contacts with her clients, even dropping off her usual weekly goodie bags and notes. Noreen has developed a lasting friendship with her resident clients.

Citizens Who Care commends Noreen Ott for her dedicated and outstanding work to brighten the days of elder citizens. Her commitment of heart, talent and energy continues to benefit our clients, their families, and the community.

In 2009 over 100 volunteers are providing more than 5000 hours of kindness through CWC's programs, and over 100 seniors have a friend to talk to. Volunteers like Brenda and Noreen make possible this essential service for our community.

On behalf of CWC's clients, volunteers and staff, we honor all our volunteers for their dedicated and outstanding work to brighten the days of isolated elder patients. Their commitment of heart and energy benefits our clients, their families and caregivers, and the community at large. Thank you, our volunteers, for representing what Citizens Who Care is all about!
